Millbrook Reservoir Safety Upgrade

As part of SA Water’s upgrade to Adelaide’s water supply, Bardavcol was chosen for the safety upgrade of Millbrook Reservoir. This involved the strengthening of the dam wall by the addition of two filter layers and a significant amount of rock fill to the toe of the dam. Complex works were required to repair and upgrade the inlet tower and tunnel. Major works were also undertaken on the dam spillway. A seventy metre wide channel was excavated using drilling and blasting techniques and lined with concrete. A solid concrete crest and entrance batters to the spillway were also constructed.

Key features included:

Approximately 35,000 tonnes of rock fill
Detailed tunnel and tower repairs
The placement of 1000m3 of concrete lining the spillway
The construction of a solid reinforced concrete crest for the spillway requiring an additional 500m3 of concrete
Strict safety and environmental criteria
Significant concrete works for the spillway
