Training and competency are key requirements for maintaining safety on all worksites. The difference between our sites and an office, is our machines can kill someone if you don’t know what you're doing.
Other items of smaller plant require training to operate, such as chainsaws and quick cut saws. If you have not been trained and undergone a Verification Of Competency (VOC) for a small plant item then you cannot use it.
Only qualified and licenced operators can operate items of Powered Mobile Plant.
This principle doesn't just apply to machines, there are some tasks you cannot perform, such as working in Confined Spaces, or acting as a Dogman to shift a load, without training.
Speak to your supervisor about being verified or gaining external qualifications.
If at any point you feel like you’re in over your head with a task, STOP, inform your supervisor that this is new to you and ask for assistance.
