ALWAYS HAVE AN ESCAPE PLAN
Being aware of your surroundings is a key lifesaving principle on and off of site. Having an escape plan from wherever you’ve positioned yourself only takes a few seconds and could save your life.
There are many things that can go wrong on a construction site. Traffic or speed though site and go off course, machines move somewhere you didn’t predict, or a pressurised substance is released.
In any of these situations having a clear path to safety is vital in avoiding life threatening injuries, and if you turn around and have to navigate past a vehicle or building, it could cost you your life.
Never place yourself against a hard object, or other obstruction where you can’t get away quickly if need be.
If you find yourself in a position where you can’t have a clear escape route, STOP works and speak to your supervisor.
