PPE IS THE LAST LINE OF DEFENCE

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is vital to keeping you safe on site, but is the bottom level on the Hierarchy Of Control (HOC) for a reason.

Other control mechanisms need to be in place as well as the need to wear PPE. This can include administrative controls, such as a SWMS or Work Instruction, however, when possible physical or engineering controls should be employed first.

Eliminate the hazard wherever possible. Always ask yourself: “Is there a better way to do this that doesn't put me in danger?”

PPE must be kept in good condition and worn appropriately at all times. Any items are too worn or damaged must be replaced before conducting work on site.

When all other controls fail, your PPE really is your last line of defence. If it’s not in good condition to do its job and save you when needed—Get rid of it!!
