Marion Road and Sir Donald Bradman Drive Intersection

$13 million - Department of Infrastructure & Transport

Marion Road is a strategic north-south arterial road on the western side of Greater Metropolitan Adelaide, and Sir Donald Bradman Drive is a strategic east-west road providing access between the Adelaide Airport and the Adelaide CBD.  The intersection exceeded its capacity and was to experience increasing future demand.
The objectives of the project were to:

  • Improve efficiency on Marion Road and Sir Donald Bradman Drive to cater for current and future traffic volume demands, including expected demand during construction of the North-South Corridor.

  • Improve safety for all road users.

  • Enhance the sense of place through stronger integration of pedestrian, cycling and public transport movements within the local area including extensive landscaping treatments.

Works were performed accommodating the significant traffic flow through the intersection and needed to take account for access to a number of affected businesses which had experienced compulsory land acquisition whilst also ensuring access to and from the Adelaide Airport was not compromised, particularly at peak departure and arrival times
